The well-known neurosurgeon from Patras was on vacation in Argentina when he lost his life in the Andes, where he had gone for climbing.
According to information, Dimitris Konstantinou had gone for climbing in the Andes when at an altitude of about 6,500 meters, where oxygen was minimal, he felt sick and faint. The people who were with him immediately called for help. A helicopter arrived at the point, but it did not manage to take him in time to a hospital in Argentina. According to the same information the doctor had a pulmonary edema and finally his heart did not endure.
He had begun on December 30th from Patras with a group of friends and had planned to return to work at the University Hospital on January 23rd.
He left at age 59.
