One of the most special stages of this year's event was completed today for Bike Odyssey 2019! On one hand, we saw ten different teams getting sentenced with a 50-minutes penalty because they lost their way before the 1st checkpoint, on the other hand we witnessed dynamic performances and emphatic victories in the 9-days and 4-days races.
In more detail, the AVRA team (by Souvatzoglou Grigoris and Kourmpetis Anestis) seemed to react to their last defeat, went hard and won their sixth victory in 8 stages of the race. With this victory, the AVRA team has further expanded its gap in the 9-days General Rankings and is now losing only by a miracle the victory of the blue jersey for the Bike Odyssey 2019!
2nd place was won by Rene Reidinger and Christian Meyer of the Bikeboard.at team for yet another stage. The team of the Austrian and Swiss journalists performed greatly once again but did not manage to keep up with the leaders of the race.
With regards to the 4-days race, the two teams of the Greek National Team gave us an impressive performance, and they won another great victory, leaving the remaining athletes of the Stage quite behind them. The team of Periklis ilias and Antoniadis Dimitris was the first to cross the finish line, followed by the other Greek National team of Molla Amet Ali Oglou Charoun and Tsortoukidis ilias!
Eight minutes later came the FUKAYA RACING team of the Japanese athletes Yuta Matsumoto and Takeuchi Ryo. The two athletes from Japan made a very persuasive appearance and were constantly ahead of most of the athletes of the Stage. Their efforts, however, did not prove enough, as it was shown that the level of the world champion, the Greek champion and the two other members of the National Team is far higher than any athlete of this year's event.
The biggest incident, however was something else: 10 teams of today's race were lost shortly before the 1st checkpoint, and thus appeared later at the 2nd checkpoint! Because of this, a penalty of 50 minutes was imposed on these teams to their final time, as clearly stated by the rules of the race!
The above event brought many changes in all of the Bike Odyssey races, but especially in the Open 4 Days South Race. Panos Vergetopoulos and Karayiannis Ilias, of the MOUNTAIN - BIKERS team gave us a very strong performance for the second consecutive day and seemed to be locking the first place in their category. However, after the imposition of the sentence against them, they lost a lot of ground, and were left seven minutes behind the first place of the General Classification. Now they have no choice but to enter the final stage with everything they have and cover such a difference in one of the smaller stages of this year's event!
After all of those days we finally arrive tomorrow at the epilogue of this year's cycling Odyssey! Tomorrow's race is expected with great interest, with the athletes preparing to offer us one last show, and especially the athletes of the 4-days South Race giving everything they have for their best placement in the General Classification of the race!
