The 7th Stage of Bike Odyssey 2019 was proven quite harder than it was expected!
The athletes started from Athanasios Diakos heading to Kato Tithorea for a distance of about 85 km. The route of the current stage included a little of everything, from trails, uphill tracks and mountain terrain to downhill trails, open locations and plain sights.
Additionally, this was also meant to be a very hot day, which, combined with the above features of the route, created new challenges for the athletes of the race.
Considering all of the above an unusual paradox came to take place: 10 of the 35 teams of today's race were lost shortly before the 1st checkpoint, resulting in them ending up later on directly at the 2nd checkpoint!
As a result, a 50 minutes penalty was imposed on these teams in their final time, as the rules of the race clearly suggest a penalty of 50 minutes for the teams that do not pass through a checkpoint of the stage or consciously choose to alter their way in order to win a better place in the race!
