In an emphatic way Sinetairoi win first place in the 3-days race!
Another Bike Odyssey came to an end. An eight days long adventure made by fairytale-like routes, hidden treasures, interesting protagonists, big rivalries, impressive performances and unexpected developments. A true Odyssey that we will always remember with a bittersweet nostalgia!
The Bike Odyssey 2018 event is officially completed today with the final stage of the race finishing in Nafpaktos and the 8-days and the southern 3-days races closing their circle. The teams that came out as winners of both races were Pedal Force One of Papanikolaou and Kalogeropoulos for the 8-days race - after an eight days long duel with BikeBoard of Maciejowski and Mossoczy - and Sinetairoi of Papasavvas and Matsoukas for the southern 3-days race, who really impressed by delivering three amazing performances in as many races.
More in detail, regarding the 8-days race, Maciejowski and Mossoczy (BikeBoard) had to win today with a difference of more than seven minutes from Pedal Force One in order to take the lead in the general ranking. The race began with the Poles taking the lead, which they retained throughout the race, thus taking the first place for the 8th stage and their fifth victory in eight stages of the race. However, they did not win the first place in the general classification, as a little further behind them, with a little less than four minutes difference, Papanikolaou and Kalogeropoulos (Pedal Force One) finished in second place.
The team of the two Greek athletes did not leave its main competitors to create a significant lead at any point of the race and - despite winning only three stages - took full advantage of its first two victories and deservedly ranked first in the overall classification of the 8-days race.
Regarding the 3-days race, Sinetairoi of Papasavvas and Matsoukas delivered another excellent performance, finishing with a 7 minutes difference in first place for the third consecutive stage and by having three wins in three stages they took first place in the overall ranking of the 3- days race, with a shocking lead of about one hour and twenty-five minutes!! The two athletes amazed and impressed for three days and worthy won the orange jersey of the champions of the southern 3-days race.
In the rest of the top six of the southern 3-days race, nothing changed in the overall classification, despite the big difference with which Mauden Hill Cycling of Perdkaris and Chohara finished in the seventh place of the current stage. A dynamic appearance, however, took place by Stathis and Koutsotanas (Red Arrows Team). The fourth team in the overall ranking delivered yet another great performance, finishing just ten seconds behind the West Bikers of Rizos and Tabaropoulos (2nd place) in third place.
This way, we finally came to the eighth day of Bike Odyssey, with the contestants meeting their own cycling Ithaca in the beautiful seaside town of Nafpaktos after eight days of a unique experience in the unparalleled beauty of the mountains of Pindus.
The Bike Odyssey 2018 was completed with great success, compensating the fans of cycling and sports in general who decided to pay attention to it and leaving its audience with only one question: When will it be next time? Until then ... stay tuned!!
