The Greek National Team Confirmed its supremacy!
The 2nd stage of the Bike Odyssey 2019 was one with great interest, which included intense duels for the 9-days race, and yet another dynamic appearance by the Greek National Team.
9 days Race
More specifically, the 9-days race kicked off where it had stopped the day before, with team AVRA (of Souvatzoglou Grigoris and Kourmpetis Anestis) and team Bikeboard.at (of Rene Reidinger and Christian Meyer) coming in and competing with one another for the first place!
Up to the 1st checkpoint the two teams were cycling almost together, having a difference of about one and a half second around the point of the 1st pit stop. However, AVRA team was gradually increasing its lead, and arrived first at the finish line, 18 minutes ahead of team Bikeboard.at
The SCHC POLAND TEAM team of Baran Marcin and Fidytek Tomasz moved steadily at the third place. The Polish team never felt any danger of falling behind that spot, and was essentially the big (kind of) calming force of the 9-days race for the second consecutive day.
A very interesting battle, took place for the 4th, 5th and 6th places! The teams that competed against one another were the Heroes & Zeros team (of Toulouhas George and Dudek Bo), the Beastie Bikerz Masters team (of Wolfgang Faßbender and Thomas Wimmer), the Pro Trener team (of Novikova Anna and Zamotin Oleg) and the Feels Good like a MTF team (of Fraile Louis and Julian Ammorich).
The four teams competed hard, were constantly with a few minutes difference between one another and were frequently changing their order of ranking at each checkpoint of the current stage! Heroes & Zeros had the strongest beginning, reaching 4th at the point of the first checkpoint, but eventually the one that won the 4th place on the podium was the Beastie Bikerz Masters team, followed by the Feels Good like a MTF team, the Heroes & Zeros team and the Pro Trener team, with that order.
Those four teams showed us that they are close to one another during the previous stages as well, and they seem to have recognized each other as their actual competition, creating with their performance a great interest in how they will approach the next stages of the race!
UCI 4-days North Race
For yet another day, the two teams of the Greek National Team confirmed their great momentum, not only by staying at the front of most of the Event’s bikers, but by showing character through adversity and by winning emphatically the 1st and 2nd place for the 4-days North race.
A little before their arrival at the point of the 1st checkpoint, the team of Periklis Ilias and Antoniadis Dimitris faced a technical problem, headed for the point of the 1st pit stop by foot and were forced to change the whole wheel from Antoniadis Dimitris's bike, losing valuable time in the process.
However, the once world champion and the Greek champion showed their experience, repaired the damage, picked up their pace, arrived at the points of the next two checkpoints before of the athletes of their category and won first place in an emphatic way, by having an 11 minutes difference from the 2nd team of Tsortoukidis Ilias and Molla Amet Ali Oglou.
The other Greek National Team also gave us a very strong performace and finished in second place with a 20-minute lead ahead of the rest of the 4-days race.
The battle for the top three positions in the Open 4-days North race!
A thrilling battle took place for the first three positions of the 4-days North race for athletes of the Open category. The three teams that were constantly competing for these positions were the No lifers team (of Kalabalikis Dimitris and Michailidis Ioannis), the ACTION BIKE CLUB-SIS team(of Voudouris Euripides and Zoumoulis Vasilis) and the Gatsoulis-Orbea team (of Dimopoulos Thomas and Karametos Dimitris).
Those three teams were changing constantly in the rankings up until around the 3rd checkpoint, but eventually the No Lifers team won first place, followed by the ACTION BIKE CLUB-SIS team and the Gatsoulis-Orbea team respectively
In conclusion, another day for the Bike Odyssey 2019 came to an end, a day with interesting duels, remarkable performances and great promise for the next stages of this country's largest Mountain Bike Race.
